By RailFor those who are travelling by train, the Nilgiri Express from Chennai reaches till Mettupalyam from where either a bus or a steam train can be used to reach Ooty. For much better rail service, Coimbatore is yet again a better option.

By Road Ooty can be conveniently reached by road from different cities of not only Tamil Nadu but also other states like Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. There are also regular bus services available from destinations like Bangalore, Mysore, Coimbatore, Calicut, Kanyakumari, Thanjavur, Tirupathi and Cochin.
